Praia de São Roque, Lagos: Portugal's Hidden Gem

Lagos is a charming coastal town located in the Algarve region of Portugal, and Praia de São Roque is one of the many beautiful beaches it offers. Less crowded, calmer, and boasting stunning natural beauty, this beach is a perfect choice for those who want to avoid the crowds and seek a peaceful getaway.

How to Get There?

Reaching Praia de São Roque is quite easy. It's approximately a 10-minute drive from Lagos city center. You can also use the regular bus routes that operate from the city center. If you're going by car, there are parking areas near the beach. However, finding parking can be difficult during the summer months, so it's recommended to arrive early.

Why Choose Praia de São Roque?

Praia de São Roque offers a calmer and more peaceful atmosphere compared to other popular Lagos beaches. It boasts breathtaking natural beauty with its golden sands and crystal-clear, turquoise waters. It's an ideal beach for families as its shallow waters are safe for children. It's also a perfect spot for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, and simply enjoying nature. There are a few small cafes and restaurants around the beach where you can grab lunch and drinks.

When to Go?

The Algarve region enjoys sunny and warm weather for most of the year. The best time to visit Praia de São Roque is between May and June, or between September and October. These months offer ideal temperatures and less crowded beaches. July and August are quite crowded and hot. During the winter months, the beach is quieter, suitable for those seeking a more tranquil holiday, however, the water temperature may not be suitable for swimming.

There are tons of gorgeous beaches here, with wooden boardwalks connecting small beach bars and shacks. It's not too hot, not too windy, and it's truly perfect for the beach (and there was no litter at all, so it was incredibly clean).

Great for swimming, running (especially on the newer trails), and the occasional surf. My happy place.

It's a great beach for children and families. I recommend going in the morning, as the north wind can be quite strong in the afternoon. The sand is soft and fine, so don't forget to bring an umbrella or something similar to protect you from the sun.
