Şile Beach Guide

Şile, the pearl of Istanbul's Black Sea coast, is a perfect weekend getaway destination with its natural beauty, clean air, and expansive coastline. For those looking to relax in Şile's cool waters and soak up the sun, we've compiled the most popular and peaceful beaches in this guide.

Şile's Favorite Beaches
Uzunkum Beach

It's Şile's longest and most popular beach. As its name suggests, it's known for its kilometers-long stretch of sand. It's well-developed in terms of facilities, with private businesses offering sunbed and umbrella rentals and various water sports. Its fine sand and shallow waters make it a popular choice, especially for families with children. Weekends are particularly busy, so an early arrival is recommended.

Weeping Rock Beach and Bay

Located near the center of Şile, this beach takes its name from the constant trickle of water that trickles down from the rocks. Its natural beauty and relatively calm waters are notable. The surrounding area is lined with high-quality restaurants and cafes. While a portion of the beach is privately owned, the area surrounding the bay is quieter and more scenic.

Şile Central Public Beach

It's the closest beach to the town center and is free to use. There are snack bars and showers to meet your basic needs. Its central location makes it the easiest beach to access, but it can get quite crowded during the summer months. The sea water quality can be more turbulent and choppy than other beaches.

Akcakese Beach

A little further from the center, it's ideal for those seeking tranquility. It has largely preserved its natural beauty and is generally less crowded. Facilities are more limited than in Uzunkum, so bringing food and drinks is recommended. The sea is clean and the surrounding area is lush and green.

Kumbaba Beach

It's a beach famous for its black (mineral-rich) sand, believed to have healing properties. It's a popular spot, especially for those suffering from rheumatic ailments. Although located near a large resort, part of the beach is open to the public.

Important Tips and Warnings
  • Current Warning: Due to its location on the Black Sea coast, Şile beaches are at risk of rip currents, especially on windy days. Heed lifeguard warnings and stay away from the marked area.
  • Transportation: Transportation to Şile is generally provided by private vehicles or IETT buses departing from Üsküdar/Harem. Parking lots fill up quickly on weekends.
  • Hours: Aim to be at the beaches before 9:00 am to find a comfortable spot, especially during the summer months.

We wish you a pleasant and safe seaside holiday in Şile!
