Places to Swim at the Pier: Diving Beyond the Blue
In the scorching heat of summer, there's nothing quite like giving way to the coolness of wooden planks over concrete and diving straight into the deep water. Piers offer both an escape from the crowds of beaches and the opportunity to experience the water's clarity at its finest. Here are a selection of locations from across Türkiye where you can fully experience the pleasure of swimming from a pier.
Pier Paradises of the Aegean and Mediterranean
Çeşme/Alaçatı Port Piers: In addition to Alaçatı's windsurfing-friendly bays, the long piers of the beach clubs, especially those located in the Port area, provide direct access to the deep and cool Aegean waters.
Kaş Peninsula Resort Piers: Due to Kaş's unique rocky shoreline, access to the sea is generally via platforms and piers set up by the resorts. The clarity and turquoise color of the water here elevate the experience of the pier to a whole new level.
Bodrum/Türkbükü and Gündoğan Piers: Bodrum's northern shores are generally known for their elegant, long piers, rather than the beach itself. These piers offer both sunbathing and quick dives into the deep waters.
Datça/Palamutbükü Shore Platforms: In the clean waters of the Datça peninsula, small wooden platforms set up in the sea by some businesses or guesthouses in Palamutbükü offer a calm and peaceful sea experience.
Fethiye/Ölüdeniz Belcekız Side: On the shores of Ölüdeniz, where calm waters prevail, certain hotels and businesses have piers extending into the sea, offering sunbathing opportunities.
Marmara and Other Coasts
Piers Near Bozcaada's Beaches: Small public fishing piers or temporary piers set up along the beach near the island's western and southern bays make great jumping-off points on calm days.
Istanbul/Şile and Ağva (Limited Piers): While the Black Sea's harsh terrain limits the number of piers, some boutique hotels or private beaches may have small, sheltered piers set up in rocky areas. However, caution is essential here.
Pre-Dive Tips
When entering the sea from a pier, be sure to check the water depth. Avoid diving headfirst, especially into unfamiliar waters. Piers generally open into deeper waters than sandy areas, so it's important to be confident in your swimming skills. We wish you safe and enjoyable dives!
