Ayvalık Beach Guide

Ayvalık, the northern pearl of the Aegean, is a must-see destination for summer vacations, boasting both its historic heritage and miles of pristine beaches. Here are some of the top beaches and coves in and around Ayvalık, where you can enjoy the cool waters.

Sarimsakli Beach

It's Ayvalık's most popular and longest beach. Sarımsaklı, approximately 7 kilometers long, is renowned for its fine sand and crystal-clear waters. Its cool waters, characteristic of the Aegean Sea, provide excellent relief from the sweltering heat, especially in summer. Along the beach, there are both public areas and numerous private businesses offering sun loungers and umbrella rentals. Its Blue Flag status guarantees the water's quality.

Badavut Beach

Located in a more sheltered bay just north of Sarımsaklı, Badavut offers a quieter, more natural atmosphere. The sea is generally shallower and milder than Sarımsaklı. This beach, with its fine sand and surrounding natural rock formations, is particularly attractive to families seeking a peaceful, wind-free experience.

Ortunç Bay (Cunda Island)

It's one of the most popular spots on Cunda (Alibey) Island, connected to Ayvalık by a bridge. Because it's located within a protected natural area, the sea is quite clean and clear. The beach is composed of pebbles rather than sand, but the color and natural beauty of the water make this seem irrelevant. Ortunç, with its shallow, calm waters, is a great place to swim and enjoy the sea.

Dubalar Beach

It's one of the closest beaches to Ayvalık city center. As its name suggests, it's accessed via concrete or wooden piers (pontoons) along the shore. It's a practical alternative for those staying in the city center and looking for a quick beach break. You'll find plenty of food and drink nearby.

Altinova Beach

Located at the southern tip of Ayvalık, Altınova boasts a wide, long sandy beach. Less crowded than Sarımsaklı and Badavut, it's a good option for those who prefer a quieter environment. The sea is clean and is also a popular choice for water sports enthusiasts like surfing, especially on windy days.
