Amasra Beach Guide
Amasra, the Black Sea's hidden paradise, is a summertime must-see for its natural beauty and historical heritage, as well as its cool waters and pristine shores. Here are the most popular beaches in Amasra where you can enjoy the sea and what you need to know.
Grand Harbour Beach
It's Amasra's most central and well-known beach. It's within walking distance of Amasra city center, making it extremely easy to reach. The beach is generally known for its fine sand.
Büyük Liman is the most developed beach in terms of facilities. Numerous cafes, restaurants, and businesses offering umbrella and sunbed rentals are located nearby. The water is clean, but it can get quite crowded during the summer season. Its shallow depths make it suitable for both strong swimmers and children.
Small Port Surroundings
Küçük Limanı (Little Port), as its name suggests, is a smaller bay and is generally preferred for admiring the scenery and taking boat tours rather than swimming. Located just opposite Amasra Castle, the shoreline here is mostly rocky and pebbly.
If you're looking for a quieter atmosphere, it's possible to swim from the rocky platforms in this area, but the beach is less comfortable than at Büyük Limanı. It's ideal for watching the sunset in the evening.
Cakraz Beach (Outside Amasra)
Located approximately 15-20 km from the center of Amasra, Çakraz is a perfect alternative for those looking to escape the city's bustle. Boasting a wide sandy beach, Çakraz generally has calmer waters and cleaner shores.
Camping areas, guesthouses, and basic food and beverage options are available around the beach. Çakraz is particularly popular with families and campers. Transportation is generally provided by private vehicles or minibuses. The beach itself is a mixture of sand and gravel in places.
Things to Consider When Swimming in Amasra
- Black Sea water can be cooler than the Aegean and Mediterranean, even in midsummer.
- Be sure to heed lifeguard warnings as wave heights can increase rapidly on windy days.
- Arriving at the Grand Harbour early during high season (July-August) will avoid parking problems.
